Cellphone operator GrameenPhone Ltd has recently crossed five-million subscriber mark.
The company doubled its subscriber-base during the first 10 months of the current year, says a press release.
GP, starting the year with nearly 2.4 million subscribers, reached three million in March and four million in September.
The Eid Sales Campaign in October received a good response from the market. EASY pre-paid, EASY Gold, djuice and other post-paid products were offered at attractive prices. The sales campaign generated a huge demand for the GP products, according to the release.
"This is a remarkable achievement, considering we had only four million users in September," observed Erik Aas, managing director of GP.
"All our customers appreciated the major tariff reductions from early October and combined with the successful Eid campaign, we have seen a huge demand for all of the GP products," he said.
"I welcome each and every one of the new GP users and thank them along with the existing valued subscribers for making GP their preferred mobile phone service provider," the GP MD added. "GP, on its part, is committed to maintain a quality network and provide good services."
"We have significantly strengthened our coverage across the country, as well as our regional operations and customers service. We are seeing good results from these efforts," Aas said.
GP presently commands 62 percent of the mobile phone market in the country. Nearly 80 percent of the population has now been brought under the coverage of the GP network, which covers 400 upazilas of 61 districts, the release added.
