Communication Minister Syed Abul Hossain on Friday said the government is working fast for introducing the elevated expressway aiming at checking the rising traffic congestion in the city.
"The proposal of construction the elevated expressway is likely to be discussed in the purchase committee next week for approval," said the minister while inaugurating the 22nd annual convention of the Roads and Highways Engineers Association (RHEA).
Following the approval, the government will float tender after feasibility study, the minister added.
With president of the RHEA Abdul Muktadir Belal in the chair, the function wa attended by Secretary of the Ministry of Communications ASM Ali Kabir, RAJUK Chairman M Nurul Huda and Chief Engineer of the R&H department Munshi Mostafizur Rahman as special guests.
Syed Abul Hossain said the communication ministry is also working to introduce metro rail service in the city as the traffic gridlock in the capital has already emerged as a national problem.
The minister pointed out that the department has already lost its image due to the alleged corruption while the department is involve with the construction and maintenance of some 21,000 kilometers roads and 18,000 bridges and culverts.
He warned that the present government is fully aware about the problems in the department, but the people who work here shall have to be more careful in performing their duties, otherwise the department will not get any cooperation from the government.
The communication ministry is a very important one among the ministries and we want to show better performance in comparison to others. | Source : | |
