Drives against corporate corruption launched by the Anti-Corruption Com-mission (ACC) are halted throughout the country due to lack of proper directives and absence of its chairman since long.
According to sources, several teams of ACC were engaged to find out corporate corruption like irregularities, mismanagement and misappropriation of money and wealth. Soon resignation of its chairman, the strength of the anti-corruption drives throughout the country have become sluggish and hundreds official of the commission are passing ideal days.
After formation of government by Awami League led-14 party alliance, all sorts of activities including launching drives against corruption and regular weekly briefing to journalist have been postponed. Com-plications on different issues have already been created centering the scopes and nature of the commission for conducting drives. As per the pledges of the ruling party, the commission will be strengthen.
Meanwhile, the commission has decided to lodge allegations against around 50 alleged corrupts from different sectors including customs, police and revenue. Around 836 cases and 808 allegations are under investigation and reports over these will be published in a short time. On the other hand, the commission has hundreds of pending investigation over misappropriation of money and power, bribery and hiding of information about wealth and properties, according to sources.
Talking to this correspondent, a high official of the commission said Ghulam Rahman now the chairman of Ban-gladesh Energy Regu-latory Commission is likely to join as the Chair-man of ACC this month. "So far I know he has sent a letter to the president seeking relief from his current post so that he could join the ACC," he said adding, "we are expecting that the government would not enact any laws that could hamper the smooth activities of the commission."
Replying to a query, he said on the basis of existing laws, investigations are going on throughout the country but the strength of the anti-corruption drives have become sluggish recently. After taking charge by the newly appointed chairman, the commission will start its drives in order to free country's corporate offices from corruption, misappropriation of money and power and all sorts of irregularities.
